On the Downside (Hopefully!) of Hurricane Season 2019

DorainWrapping our minds around the devastating destruction in the wake of Dorian and waving Humberto good-bye with a collective sigh of relief, Floridians will still keep watch on the tropics and the Gulf of Mexico as the 2019 hurricane season hopefully dwindles away. But are you wondering, “How secure is my property to withstand a severe storm event?”

Biller Reinhart Engineering Group performs evaluations of existing buildings to assess wind resisting capacities and/or wind speed threshold categories for clients. Some buildings with a few upgrades can even be affirmed as designated hurricane shelters.

Through available construction document reviews, condition surveys, building code research and calculations, buildings can be assigned a Classification of Hurricane Category per the current Saffir/Simpson Hurricane Scale with a respective range of gust wind velocities. If pertinent, some recommendations for repair and/or replacement of building elements (hurricane hardening) that could readily be performed to increase a structure’s capacity to endure a hurricane are offered for client consideration.
