This project consisted of design and construction phase services (shop drawing/submittal reviews, response to contractor RFI’s, project correspondence, etc.) for extensive modifications of an existing building, including complete renovation of the interior, construction of new spaces on the first floor, construction of a second floor within the building shell, installation of an elevator, replacement of the HVAC equipment, and replacement of the roof system. Biller Reinhart performed structural design services (calculations, specifications, and construction drawings) for the following:

  • Helical pile supported mat foundation for the new elevator
  • Entry/lobby curved stairs
  • Design strengthening of existing roof structure to support of new rooftop equipment/ hurricane restraint
  • Provide wind loading/ support requirements/ details for new impact resistant windows and door systems
  • Removal some of existing second floor / mezzanine areas and design new second floor areas
  • Create large openings in existing walls to accommodate second floor open space concepts
  • Design support for movable dividing walls in classrooms
  • Entry canopy / porte-cochère modifications

Among other valuable services we were able to provide our Client on this project, BillerReinhart was able to engineer solutions to unexpected field conditions uncovered during construction in an accelerated manner.
