Redington Tower

Redington Tower is a 17-story residential tower in St. Petersburg, Florida. BillerReinhart prepared design drawings, specifications, bidding, negotiations, and construction phase services to support the cladding replacement and restoration for the 17-story residential tower.

After a portion of the fluted block veneer on Redington Tower 1 staircase structure had become detached, BillerReinhart performed a visual survey of the towers. The metal clips that attached the panels had become heavily corroded and the slab edges supporting the panels had widespread concrete spalling due to many years of exposure to the high chloride levels associated with exposure to Florida’s coastal environment.

After careful consideration with the Board the choice was made to remove all of the Flute Block wall panels, restore the concrete substrate, apply a new stucco finish, and seal and paint the surfaces for a more modern aesthetic appearance. In order to remove the brick panels two roof areas would need to be damaged. Due to the age of these roof systems the Owner made a decision to replace the roof systems with new. BillerReinhart was able to provide roof consulting services for this scope of work. BillerReinhart also performed engineering services during the construction phase observing structural repairs, collecting repair quantities, reviewing the new stucco finish and paint coatings.
